JOSÉ NETO AND JOÃO B. MARTINS WIN THE AVANCA PITCH SESSIONS
The “Avanca Pitch Sessions 2021” has ended and the international jury decided to award the actor José Neto with the Feature Film Prize and the director João B. Martins in the short film projects.
“Regresso ou Leva-me novamente à caça com contigo, pai” is the title of the new project that actor José Neto is looking to direct.
Born in Angola in 1955, José Henrique Neto is an actor who has divided himself between theater, television, and cinema. In cinema, he was part of the cast of films such as “O Judeu”(1996), “Tarde demais” (2000), “A Jangada de Pedra” (2002), “Dot.com” (2007), “Arte de roubar” (2008), “Bairro” (2013), “Os Maias: Cenas da Vida Romântica” (2014), “Gelo” (2016), “Até Nunca” (2016), “Peregrinação” (2017), “Ruth” (2018), “O caderno negro” (2018), “Sefarad” (2019), “Snu” (2019), “522 – Um Gato, Um Chinês e o Meu Pai” (2019), “O Filme do Bruno Aleixo” (2019), “A Tua Vez” (2019), “A Arte de Morrer Longe” (2020), “A Luz de Judá” (2020) and forthcoming in “Salgueiro Maia – O Implicado”.
In the category of feature film projects, the jury also gave Honorable Mentions to “Dan Benson” by Fábio Silva and “O Primeiro Dia” by António Sequeira.
In the short film projects the winner was ‘Maria’ by João B. Martins.
Among the short film projects, ‘The Nest’ by Moeinoddin Jalali (Ukraine) and ‘Teratoma’ by João Meirinhos (Portugal), were also distinguished with Honorable Mentions.
The Jury, presided by Bernardo Cabral (filmmaker and founder of the Curta Açores festival), was composed by the Spanish actress Amparo Rodríguez, the Argentinean distributor Luciana Abad, the filmmaker João Sanchez and the writer Nuno Camarneiro.
The Avanca Pitch Sessions is a new initiative of the 25th edition of the AVANCA 2021 Film Festival that aims to present to the audiovisual industry the best ideas for short and feature films in development, in an environment of collaboration and promotion of cinema and authors.
The authors of the 15 nominated projects previously participated in a workshop on pitch for cinema and exclusive mentoring sessions with journalist and film critic Rui Pedro Tendinha and during the AVANCA 2021 Film Festival, they presented their projects in sessions coordinated by José Miguel Pinto and presented by Luís Portugal.
The Avanca Pitch Sessions seeking to respond to the pandemic context, took place online.
AVANCA is organized by the municipality of Estarreja and the Cine Clube de Avanca and has been taking place every year with the support of the ICA / Ministry of Culture, IPDJ, the parish council of Avanca, the school group of Estarreja, the school Egas Moniz, the parish and associations of Avanca, also counting on the support of several universities and higher education schools in the country, companies and other institutions in the region.
